For Kurawal Foundation’s Annual Report 2023, our creative studio in Indonesia developed a design concept that visually echoes the spirit of critical inquiry and civic awareness. The report examines complex national issues from Indonesia’s previous administration, presented through Kurawal’s in-depth and well-crafted narratives. Drawing inspiration from grunge and grassroots aesthetics, we built a detailed visual system featuring subtle textured backgrounds, graffiti-style and typewriter fonts, paper-cut quote inserts, halftone illustrations, and torn-paper accents reminiscent of independent journals.

As a human-centered design studio, we focused on maintaining balance—allowing the visual storytelling to carry emotional weight while ensuring the writing remains clear, accessible, and central to the narrative. The clean structure highlights Kurawal’s exceptional content while subtle design cues support the overall mood of reflection, truth-seeking, and accountability. The result is an annual report that feels grounded, bold, and deeply intentional.
